Three local charities are to benefit from a cash boost by the Laurence Singers.

Reuben’s Retreat, H3 (Helping the Housing into Housing) and the Maggie’s Centre (Manchester) have each received a £250 donation from money raised through choir concerts and ticket sales over the past 12 months.

Representatives from two of the charities, Stockport-based H3 and Reuben’s Retreat, recently joined the Laurence Singers for a special cheque presentation.  H3 supports local families and individuals who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless.  Molly Bishop, receiving a cheque on behalf of H3, said the cash would help fund the charity’s Move On service, which supports people making the move from temporary to permanent accommodation.

Reuben’s Retreat was set up in memory of Reuben Michael Graham who tragically died, five years ago, aged 23 months.  The aim of the charity, established by Reuben’s parents, Nicola and Mike Graham, is to raise £3.5m to create a countryside haven in Glossop for families with poorly children.

‘This will be a home from home for children with life-limiting conditions; a place for them to relax and recharge and build memories with their families,’ Nicola told the Laurence Singers, adding:  ‘Every raindrop raises a sea.  Thank you for being part of Reuben’s journey.’

Laurence Singers chair, Sue Moore, said:  ‘We are delighted to have the opportunity of supporting the valuable work of these fantastic, local causes.’
